How to convert VTT to SRT

The converter keeps the text and timing of every cue and rewrites the rest as SRT.

  1. 1

    Add your VTT file

Click Open .vtt file or paste the WebVTT text into the input box.

  2. 2

    Review the SRT output

Cues are renumbered from 1 and timestamps are rewritten with commas. The status line shows how many cues were converted.

  3. 3

    Download or copy

Download the .srt file or copy the text into your editor.

What changes when you convert VTT to SRT

SRT is simpler than WebVTT, so features that only exist in WebVTT are removed. The words and timing always stay.

Why convert to SRT

SRT is the most widely supported subtitle format. Desktop video editors, media players and most upload forms accept it, which makes it the safest choice when you share subtitles or move them between tools.

If your video is edited in Canva, CaptionCraft takes a different route: it generates captions automatically and renders them into the video with animated templates, so they show on every platform without a separate subtitle file. CaptionCraft doesn't create SRT or VTT files.

Frequently asked questions

Does it handle WebVTT timestamps without hours?

Yes. A timestamp like 00:01.000 becomes 00:00:01,000, which SRT requires.

What happens to my cue identifiers?

SRT needs sequential numbers, so cues are renumbered from 1. Named WebVTT identifiers are not kept.

Is my subtitle file uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser and the file never leaves your device.

Can I convert SRT to VTT too?

Yes. Use the SRT to VTT converter, or switch the direction at the top of this tool.
